The week started with a visit from five of the students and staff from the Broken Hill Centre. They were here conducting some Cornerstone information sessions at a couple of high schools in Adelaide. We also enjoyed having Pete Vol (Dean of Missions) visit and our time we had with him as a team reflecting and reviewing our year so far.

Some ways you can prayerfully support us…

That each of us will stay healthy and recover from the colds and flues during this winter season.

For wisdom for Mandie as she looks at girls group and sets the tone and direction.

For Li Yean as she looks of ways to take her friendships at work deeper.

For Mandie as she goes on two weeks holidays. I was going green while eating the green eggs and ham dinner with everyone sharing their gross stories! The Kids really enjoyed getting all mucking and gross. I gave permission to some of the boys to get Matt back for all the gross stuff he had planned, although it didn't work because of the ultra thick porridge Matt had made :) We had a new member helping us out with Sonic Fudge this week a local guy Matt, we're very glad to have him on board! Wish you were here.

Two of those statements are false. Stuff in Ballarat is pretty full on. These past couple of days in particular have been quite intense, and I'm just very glad that my self esteem is healthy! I've very much wanted to run away, go back to team and ignore life here. But I'm not going to do that - as attractive as it sounds. Please keep praying for my family.

On a positive note, I met one of the Ballarat girls, and while my intentions to actaully catch up with all the team are thwarted everytime so far, I plan to spend time with them at community nights... think taht will work ok. I've also been invited to a small group which consists of ppl in their 20s and 30's, at the church I thought that I mite go to. It is a fight for me to not get cranky at the way contemporary church is run, but I think its a fight I should fight within myself, and not be a snob! In return, I have already been offered a genuine chance to be a part of a group of young XNs, and I'm kind of getting excited about it. Community is totally under-rated, until ur removed from it. I miss it.

This is growing and changing me... as a team we set a goal to learn gracefulness as a pattern of life this year. I think I'm having an intensive practical course in it right now. For sure grace and love are the only weapons I have here that have any chance at effectivness.

Back from the Hill...

Well I arrived back from Broken Hill last night. I had a great week catching up with a few people, Sonja and the Whalleys and getting to know the new first years. There is an old dump filled with lots of glass bottles on the edge of town (thats all the location details cause its very secret spot) and Helen, Patrick, Donny and myself had a great time getting dirty and finding many old hidden treasures. I was very excited to find a very old bottle that was over 100 years old with, John Penrose, Silverton, printed on the side. If your interested in Australian history Silverton is one town to check out, rich with history. I had a jam with Helen and very slowly my skills on guitar is improving. Friendship and community, catching up with mates is such a rich gift from God. The majority of my time was taken up painting Sonja's dining room, cream with blue feature wall. It was great fun and relaxing and was very fun to celebrate with a dinner party in the revamped room. I gave Mandie a bit of a scare last night when we met up. Aparently I looked like I'd been in a fight and I neglected to give her prior warning of this. I had an altercation with a curb and got a black eye and small cut and another altercation with a hammer with has left my left hand very painful and limited in movement. Going for x-ray tomorrow. I'm now back and into the swing of things. With just me and Mandie holding the fort for 2 weeks life is going to be busy and juggling things that have to be done, mission and work. I start my new job on Saturday and I apreciate your prayers. Well live continues on.... Bring it on.... Run hard, do your duty and keep your sheer doggard endurance in this battle we are in... Remember we are on the winning side that leads and gives us to life to the fullest.

Mandie at home.....

Tonight's been a great night.... my last night of aloneness! I'm in Ballarat. Hang on a minute... why is a Strath girl in Ballarat? Well, I'm on team there... but not on the Ballarat team. Confused yet??

Here's the story. I'm a Ballarat girl in that I was born and raised withinan hour of Ballarat my whole life, so it's my hometown. Its also where my family live. At the momnet my faily are going thru a bit of bad stuff. My mum has a mental illness which has been at crisis point for the past few years. The rest of my siblings are here, at home, and they're finding it heaps tough. They're tired and worn out. So I'm in Ballarat to help out basically, and give as much suport as possible, and to bring the life of the Kingdom of God into their lives. To show that God IS Good despite the apparent evidance otherwise.

So I'm on "special mission" for a time. I don't know how long that time will be. Mum's pretty out of it at the moment, and it looks like a really long road to wholeness, and she's not enirely sure she even wants to go there. I'm sad to be away from team - the place I've wanted to be for ages, and felt so at home in. However I know that this is the mission God has given me for today.

I'm sharing this because I beg you to pray with me for this family. Pray for healing of mum's mind, and for a willingness to live. Pray for a healing of a lifetime of wounds each of my siblings have to deal with, and above all, please pray that each of them come to know the goodness and reality of our God.

It's Easter Sunday today and I think we all truly want to live the life that Christ has called us to. On Friday night we went to the German arms hotel in Hahndorf for our last dinner with Tab for awhile. She left Saturday morning with her sister Hope for Ballarat. It was a sudden change for team. Tab has gone home for awhile to help out her family while her mother is ill. On Thursday night we had a passover dinner with our next door nieghbours and the Aitchisons. Here is an extract from CS Lewis that I really enjoyed reading in the studies.

'In a way I quite understand why some people are put off by Theology. I remember once when I had been giving a talk to the R.A.F., and old hard-bitten officer got up and said "I've no use for all that stuff. But mind you, I'm a religious man too. I know there's a God. I've felt Him: out alone in the desert at night: the tremendous mystery. And that's just why I don't believe all your neat little dogmas and formulas about Him. To anyone who's met the real thing they all seem so petty and pedantic and unreal!"

Now in a sense I quite agreed with that man. I think he had probably had a real experience of God in the desert. And when he turned from that experience to the Christian creeds, I think he really was turning from something real to something less real. In the same way, if a man looked at the Atlantic from the beach, and then goes and looks at a map of the Atlantic, he also will be turning from something real to something less real: turning from real waves to a bit of coloured paper. But here comes the point.

The map is admittedly only coloured paper, but there are two things you have to remember about it. In the first place it is based on what hundreds of thousands of people have found out by sailing the real Atlantic. In that way it has behind it masses of experience just as real as the one you could have from the beach; only, while yours would be a single glimpse, the map fits all those different experiences together. In the second place, if you want to go anywhere the map is absolutely necessary. As long as you are content with walks on the beach, your own glimpses are far more fun than looking at a map. But the map is going to be more use than walks on the beach if you want to get to America.'

(CS Lewis - Mere Christianity)

I'd like to hear what you think about what Lewis had to say.

Here is our latest prayer update

This morning Li Yean and Mandie got up at 5:30am to pick Tab up from the bus stop. It was cold and dark. Niether of us spoke very much. Tab was sitting at the bus stop waiting for us for about half an hour after a long bus trip and even longer week. We went to McDonalds for breakfast as our family fun day. I got to chat to a girl that I'll soon be working with. We came home and had worship. Tab read out Romans 12, remembering that each and every moment of our lives is an act of worship. This is what God has called us to.

Praise points:
^Mandie has been able to talk to a few interested people about Cornerstone through her work training.
^Praise God that we are able to have Li Yean's bosses over for dinner tonight
^Thank God that the Christian school is really excited about having us help in there school
^Matt, Tab and Li Yean met with local youth group leader to discuss about going into the public high school to have disscussion groups, praise God for this opportunity.
^Praise God for Mandie's new job that officially starts on thursday

Prayer points:
^Please pray for Tab as she has just come back from an emotionally draining week in Ballarat
^Please pray for wisdom as we try and balance the load of work and mission between us all.
^Please pray that the transition will go smoothly with all the work changes going on
^Please pray that we beter work as a team while going through this difficult period, pray that God will use it to make us each like Himself.

Thank you so much for your prayers, they do not go un-noticed. Tonight we had our
Pastor, his wife and kids over for dinner. It was great fun to give Donna a
break from cooking and to talk to them out of a Church context. We had four
girls come to our girls group on Tuesday afternoon. We had fun eating
chocolate fondue, talking about what we wanted to do with the girlsgroup,
sharing some stories and having a great big pillow fight.
This week's photo is of the stuff we brought from the donation we received.

THANK GOD...
#For relationships within the community moving forward.
#For our girls group that went really well!
#For our new neighbours who have just moved in with three young girls.
#For the Murraylands (Christian school) meeting that went well.

Please Pray...
*for Tab's hand to get better.
*for the RI seminars coming up in the public schools.
*for Rachel's health.
*for us to get to know the new nieghbours better.
*for Rach and Tab's studies, that they will be able to put what they
learn into practise.
*for good time use and sustainablity for the team
*for Mandie's Chiropractic appointment next week (first ever!!).

Sporting fever run amock tonight. Tab and Mandie verses Li Yean and Rach in a game of 'hallway soccer'. Energy levels running high, bumping each other to get the ball, Mandie and Rach pegging the ball from one goal (the doors at each end) to the other. We finally decided to end the game after the ball came a little to close to the light for our liking, then off to do the dishers. Ealier in the night we had the Hodgeson's over for dinner. Great converstion was had and fun games with their kids. Friendships are really developing in town. We have just started our girls group, our youth group 'Sonic Fudge' is next Wednesday and we have had a couple of people over for tea. We also have new neighbours move in and we look forward to getting to know them. I'm really excited by the opportunities that are opening up and enjoying having people share in our team life. Well the night is getting on and we are all winding down. Sweet mellow gutair can be heard in the background.

P.S -Just as a random weird end to this post. If you like ridiculous silly stick in your head songs check out - The Llama Song

[Tab Edit 11:10pm]"a little to close to the light for our liking" means that the ball actaully hit the light and sent it swinging! Oh, and it was me playing the "sweet mellow guitar" :) I like that Rach, Thanx!!!
